Core Description:
The object of the Islet Phenotyping Core is to facilitate research by providing high quality experimental tools to study pancreatic function to researchers both internal and outside of Vanderbilt. Also see Surgical Services.
The Aims of this Core are to:
- Provide state-of-the-art services to assess pancreatic function in vivo or in vitro (glucose clamps, FSIVGTT, perifusion-based hormone secretion)
- Perform surgical transplants of human or mouse islets into recipient mouse models
- Reproducibly provide high quality mouse pancreatic islets
- Provide robust imaging technology to monitor the dynamics of islet calcium handling
- Train investigators in approaches to study islet function in conscious unstressed mice
